Perfect Market Day Itinerary in Greenwich This Summer

Here’s how to have a perfect day at one of London’s best markets this summer: Greenwich Market.

Naturally your day will begin by getting to Greenwich. There’s no better way to arrive than by boat! City Cruises, Thames River Sightseeing and Uber Boat by Thames Clippers will whisk you to the Royal Borough from multiple spots along the Thames, in style.

It’s a short meander from Greenwich Pier to Greenwich Market. The Market opens at 10am every day. To avoid the crowd we recommend arriving early, when stall holders have just set up for the day with bright smiles and stalls packed with the beautiful and unusual.

Coffee addicts will want to make a beeline for coffee: head to the likes of 15 grams; Ideal Espresso; Monsoon Cafe; Artfix; and more, to fuel up for the day ahead. If a pastry, waffle or pancake is calling your name, detour to Planet Pancake, Arapina Bakery or Chimney Cake Shop

Now it’s time to explore the incredible artisan makers that Greenwich Market is famous for.

This is hands-down one of the best places in London to pick up gifts and souvenirs, with every trader selling items that are made with love – and each with a remarkable backstory (take your time and chat to the friendly vendors to find out more).

From vintage maps to handmade ceramics, jewellery, pet toys, and sustainable fashion – Greenwich Market has it all.

Make sure you have comfortable shoes, and BYO carry bags, so you can browse for as long as you like. You’re not going to want to leave empty handed on this day out.

At some point you’re going to need to eat! And you’re in luck, Greenwich Market is an excellent spot for street food. The rotation of stalls here cover every type of cuisine you can want for – from Ethiopian and Eritrean lentil dishes to Italian-style thin crust pizza; Japanese sushi rolls to Chinese dim sum dumplings, or Turkish gozleme…. that’s only a taster of what’s available.

After lunch you can continue shopping, or you may want to spend the afternoon unwinding over a drink or two. Whether it’s the upmarket Greenwich Grind, where you can sip cocktails in the garden or lounge, or a beer at the more traditional Coach & Horses or The Admiral Hardy– treat yourself.

Greenwich Market is also brimming with non-alcoholic options from freshly blended smoothies to artisanal ice cream and homemade cakes.

Finish your day wandering by the Thames listening to the call of water birds or head to Greenwich Park for a stroll along its tree-lined avenues. That’s a summer’s day to remember – and repeat!
