If you’ve ever wandered through Greenwich Market and found yourself pausing to admire delicate hand-painted nature scenes on vintage wooden objects, bowls, boxes and trays – chances are you’ve discovered Maggie Moseley’s distinctive stall.

Her work is underpinned by an appreciation for nature and sustainability. Maggie handmakes free gift bags for each item using upcycled vintage curtains, proving that one can be environmentally friendly and stylish.
Since setting up here in 2017, Maggie has become a familiar face at the Market. Eight years on, her passion for the Market (“I still feel the same sense of excitement every time I set up”) – and making art – is just as strong.

Maggie’s practice resists easy categorisation. Her subject matter ranges widely, from animals and plants to more contemporary work. Her style shifts depending on the medium she’s working with – each one guiding the creative process in its own way.
For work that calls for realism and fine detail, Maggie turns to oil paints. Whether she’s capturing the fine hairs on a pet’s face or the intricate legs of a millipede, she uses brushes as fine as 2mm to render each detail with care.
“Oil painting is what I reach for when I’m doing a ‘serious painting’ – usually a commission or a piece that needs to be an accurate representation,” she explains on her website.

When working more spontaneously or within tight time frames, she opts for acrylics. Fast-drying and flexible, they allow her to work quickly and intuitively. Maggie also turns to pencils and pens – tools that lend themselves to meditative drawing sessions – when time allows.
Watercolours and inks are another favourite, particularly for their unpredictability. Maggie loves dropping ink onto wet paper and watching it bloom naturally across the surface. “It feels like the painting is painting itself,” she says.

Visitors from across the globe have taken Maggie’s work home with them, but it’s the local community and fellow traders that make Greenwich Market feel like home. “I’ve built wonderful friendships with people who come by every week,” she says. “And the traders here are just as much a part of the magic.”
In May 2025, Maggie was named Greenwich Market’s Trader of the Month – a well-earned recognition of her artistry, dedication, and the quiet beauty of her evolving craft.
